Perhaps this Year - to Day!

Since the first of the year one thought has been resurfacing in my mind - the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I have been thinking of great songs of Christ's return. "Christ returneth, hallelujah, hallelujah, Amen!" "Is it the Crowning Day?" Or a more contemporary one, "This Could Be The Day".

But the Scriptures is what give us hope. And there is one verse in particular that is a blessing as I think of these things. 1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

The Feast of Firstfruits gives the believer a great promise of hope - Our resurrection is sure in Christ our Lord!

In this Feast the assigned priest, along with others, would cut a sheave of grain and bring it to the High Priest who would wave it before the people as a promise of more harvest to come. By Christ being the first fruits of resurrection, it is as though God the Father is waving Christ in front of all to see, that since He is resurrected, those who are dead in Christ shall be resurrected also.

Here is where it all gets exciting. Paul said, 1 Thess. 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wow! What a day that will be!

In his first letter to the Corinthians Paul wrote: 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The assurance of resurrection for the believe is Christ who raised from the dead! For the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Firstfruits guarantees our resurrection and home in Heaven!

Will this be the year of His return? Better yet, THIS COULD BE THE DAY!

Have a wonderful day, serving our Wonderful Lord, by Grace Alone!

Your post caught my eye this morning because of the mention of Henry Ostrom's gospel song "Is It the Crowning Day?" (Henry Ostrom died 68 years ago today.) And thanks for your insights on the Lord's return. Your blog was posted 3 years ago, and Christ's coming is that much nearer now. Perhaps today!
